本乡文明之Kites（风筝）

If you go to a park on a windy day in spring, you’ll see kites flying high up in the sky.

Kites are a fun toy for kids of all ages to play with.

The first kite appeared(呈现) more than 2,000 years ago in China.

There are many kinds of kites.

They are in all shapes(形状), like birds, cats, and so on.

They are usually made of silk or paper.

And they are in different colors.

Kites have many uses, like spying(侦查), fighting and fishing.

But the best way to use a kite is to fly it high for fun!

There are some kite festivals in China.

Weifang International Kite Festival(潍坊世界风筝节) , one of the most famous kite festivals, is held(举办) in April(四月) every year.

People spend all days flying kites.

They always have a great time.

%20 A%20long%20time%20ago,%20the%20Chinese%20made%20kites%20to%20use%20in%20wars.%20They%20would%20fly%20these%20war%20kites%20in%20the%20dark.%20The%20kites%20were%20fixed%20so%20that%20they%20made%20strange%20sounds.%20Men%20who%20were%20at%20war%20with%20them%20would%20hear%20these%20

sounds and run away. The thought those sounds were made by gods in the sky.

The ancient Chinese also flew kites to bring good luck and to make their crops grow rich and tall. Sometimes they tied long strings (绳子) and hooks (钩) to their kites. Then they would fly the kites over water, letting the hooks hang down to catch fish.

The Chinese use sticks, strings and paper for their kites. Some of these kites look like animals

or trees. Others look like birds or houses.
